Synopsis

Christine McPherson (Saoirse Ronan), who insists on being called "Lady Bird," is a fiercely independent and artistically inclined high school senior at a Catholic school in Sacramento, California, in 2002. She longs for adventure, sophistication, and opportunity, but finds none of that in her hometown. She dreams of attending an Ivy League college on the East Coast—anywhere "where culture is"—despite her family's precarious financial situation.
