Synopsis

Train Dreams (2025) is a lyrical and hauntingly beautiful adaptation of the Pulitzer-finalist novella by Denis Johnson. Set against the majestic, untamed backdrop of the American Northwest in the early 20th century, the film tells the life story of Robert Grainier (Joel Edgerton). Grainier is a day laborer—a logger and railroad worker—who helps build the infrastructure of a rapidly industrializing nation. His life is defined by the rhythm of physical toil and the deep, quiet love he shares with his wife, Gladys (Felicity Jones), and their young daughter. However, when a catastrophic tragedy strikes while he is away at work, Grainier is left to navigate a world of profound solitude. As the years pass, he witnesses the vanishing of the wilderness he once cleared, encountering eccentric wanderers, strange premonitions, and the ghosts of his past.
